Safari Ltd. Basilisk Review:

This Basilisk by Safari in an interesting creation in an aggressive pose. A black coiled serpent with red fans along the spine. Along the midbody are several hooked apendages reminiscent of a centipede. The basilisk has a beaked mouth hissing with its forked tongue. Golden eyes burning as it strikes. In my opinion a well made mythical monster.

Safari Ltd. Product Information:

The Basilisk is a fearsome mythical creature, believed to be King of the serpents. It is said to not only be able to kill with its venom, but also to cause death to any creature that looks into its eyes. Its main weakeness, oddly, is the smell of a weasel!

Characteristics: This twisting, serpentine Basilisk toy figurine features all the fierceness of this mythical King of snakes. Though its snarling open mouth full of teeth and forked tongue might be fearsome, you can thankfully gaze into its golden eyes without fear. A perfect toy for any fan of fantasy and mythical creatures.

Size: This curling, coiled Basilisk figure measures about 5 1/2 inches tall and about 4 1/2 inches wide.

Basilisk Information:

The Basilisk is a legendary creature from European mythology, often depicted as a serpent or a reptile with the ability to cause death or petrification with its gaze. It is said to be born from a chicken's egg hatched by a toad or serpent, and its name is derived from the Greek word "basiliskos," meaning "little king" or "kinglet."

According to legend, the Basilisk's gaze was lethal, and even its breath or the sound of its voice could cause harm. It was often described as having a crown-like crest on its head, adding to its regal associations.

The Basilisk has been a popular figure in literature, folklore, and mythology for centuries, appearing in various forms in different cultures across Europe. It has also made appearances in modern popular culture, including literature, films, and video games, often retaining its deadly gaze and serpent-like appearance.
