The PNSO Popo the Hippopotamus figure showcases the robust, barrel-shaped body of the hippo, with its massive size and muscular build accurately portrayed. Its short legs and wide stance give a sense of the animal’s natural stability and strength, while the pronounced folds and wrinkles on its skin reflect the hippo’s thick, protective hide.

The stance is unique and playfull as Popo either rests on its rump or is in the process of getting up from a well-deserved rest.

The mouth is closed in a cute smirk and the detailed texture of the skin, painted in natural tones of gray and pink, gives the model a lifelike appearance, while subtle shading enhances the depth and realism. The small, rounded ears and large nostrils on the broad head add authenticity, capturing the features that allow hippos to thrive in aquatic environments.

The PNSO Popo the Hippopotamus: Measures 4.25" L x 2.75" H

The hippopotamus, often referred to as the "river horse," is one of Africa's most fascinating and powerful animals. Despite their semi-aquatic lifestyle, hippos are not closely related to other large mammals like elephants or rhinos. Instead, their closest living relatives are whales and dolphins, with whom they share a common ancestor. Hippos are primarily found in sub-Saharan Africa, inhabiting rivers, lakes, and swamps, where they play a vital role in the ecosystem.

Physically, hippos are easily recognized by their massive, barrel-shaped bodies, which can weigh between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds for males, making them one of the heaviest land animals. They have short, sturdy legs and wide feet with webbed toes, which help them move efficiently through water. Although their thick skin appears smooth, it secretes a reddish, oily substance that acts as a natural sunscreen and antimicrobial layer, protecting them from the harsh sun and potential infections. Their heads feature small, rounded ears and large nostrils positioned on top, allowing them to breathe and remain alert while submerged.
