14+ Years

Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years.
The PNSO "Brook the Ophthalmosaurus" figure captures the essence of Ophthalmosaurus, a sleek and agile ichthyosaur known for its streamlined body and large eyes, which were crucial for hunting in deep, dimly-lit waters. The figure’s elegant design and attention to anatomical detail make it both a scientific and artistic triumph.
Brook’s sculpted body reflects the hydrodynamic shape of Ophthalmosaurus, with a tapered snout and elongated, torpedo-like form. The figure’s large eyes, characteristic of this genus, are accentuated with precise detailing, emphasizing their importance for visual acuity in the murky underwater environment. The flippers are expertly crafted to convey the flexibility and power required for swift swimming, while the tail fluke is rendered in a dynamic pose that suggests movement through the ocean.
PNSO Brook The Ophthalmosaurus measures Approx (inches): 18.8 L x 6.3 H.
1:35 scientific reconstruction sculpture for display. NOT A TOY.
Includes a platform / stand (PVC).
Ophthalmosaurus, a genus of ichthyosaur that lived approximately 165–150 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period, is one of the most iconic marine reptiles known to science. Its name, meaning "eye lizard," underscores one of its most distinctive features—its exceptionally large eyes, which were among the largest of any known vertebrate. These eyes, protected by bony sclerotic rings, allowed Ophthalmosaurus to see clearly in the dimly-lit depths of the ocean, where it likely hunted for prey.
Ophthalmosaurus was a medium-sized ichthyosaur, measuring around 20 feet in length and weighing roughly one ton. Its streamlined, torpedo-shaped body was built for speed and efficiency in the water, enabling it to pursue fast-moving prey such as fish and cephalopods. Like other ichthyosaurs, it possessed a crescent-shaped tail fluke and elongated, paddle-like flippers that provided powerful propulsion and precise maneuverability. These adaptations made Ophthalmosaurus a highly effective predator in its marine environment.
