PNSO Harvey the Iguanodon - Scientific Art Model Review:

Iguanodon Information:

Iguanodon (pronounced ih-GWAH-nuh-don) is a genus of herbivorous dinosaurs that lived during the early Cretaceous period, around 126 to 125 million years ago. They were members of the Ornithischian group, which was characterized by their bird-like hips and herbivorous diet. Iguanodon was one of the first dinosaur species to be discovered and described, contributing significantly to our understanding of dinosaurs in the early days of paleontology. Here are some key characteristics of Iguanodon: Size: Iguanodon was a large dinosaur, with some species reaching lengths of up to 10 meters (33 feet) and heights of around 4 meters (13 feet). They weighed several tons. Bipedal Locomotion: Iguanodon was primarily a bipedal dinosaur, meaning it walked on its hind legs. However, it is believed that they could also adopt a quadrupedal stance by walking on all fours, using their hands as well as their feet. Beak and Teeth: Iguanodon had a distinctive beak-like mouth that resembled that of modern-day iguanas, which is how the dinosaur got its name. In addition to the beak, they had teeth that were adapted for grinding plant material, indicating their herbivorous diet. Thumb Spikes: One of the most unique features of Iguanodon was its opposable thumb spikes. On each hand, they had a large, thumb-like spike, which paleontologists believe might have been used for defense against predators or for foraging. Social Behavior: Iguanodon is thought to have lived in herds, which is a common behavior among many herbivorous dinosaurs. Living in groups provided protection from predators and facilitated breeding and foraging. Fossil Discoveries: The first remains of Iguanodon were discovered in 1822 in England by Mary Ann Mantell and her husband, Gideon Mantell.
