PNSO Tristan the Gorgosaurus measures: 10.2" L x 3.9" T.
Gorgosaurus was a bipedal dinosaur, meaning it walked on two legs. It had a large head with powerful jaws filled with serrated teeth, which were well-suited for tearing flesh.
Estimates of its size vary, but it was similar in size to its more famous relative, Tyrannosaurus rex. Adult Gorgosaurus individuals could reach lengths of up to 30 feet (9 meters) and stand about 8 to 9 feet (2.5 to 2.7 meters) tall at the hips.
Fossils of Gorgosaurus have been found in North America, primarily in what is now western Canada, in places such as Alberta and Saskatchewan. It shared its habitat with other dinosaurs like Hadrosaurs and ceratopsians.
Gorgosaurus, like other tyrannosaurs, was a carnivore. It likely preyed on a variety of large herbivorous dinosaurs that inhabited its environment, including ceratopsians and hadrosaurs.
The name "Gorgosaurus" means "fierce lizard" or "dreadful lizard" and was given to this dinosaur due to its formidable appearance. Gorgosaurus was first described by Lawrence Lambe in 1914 based on fossils found in Alberta, Canada.
Gorgosaurus is part of the tyrannosaurid family, which includes some of the most famous dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex and Albertosaurus. It is closely related to Albertosaurus, and there is ongoing debate among paleontologists about whether Gorgosaurus is a distinct species or a regional variant of Albertosaurus.
Like most dinosaurs, Gorgosaurus went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period, around 66 million years ago, possibly as a result of the mass extinction event believed to have been caused by an asteroid impact.
