The Papo Blue Whale figure captures the majestic presence of the blue whale with stunning attention to detail. The body of the whale is elongated and streamlined, perfectly reflecting the species' sleek and powerful form. The flippers, dorsal fin, and flukes (tail fins) are all accurately depicted, showcasing the anatomical features that enable the blue whale to glide gracefully through the ocean. The mouth of the whale opens and closes, hinting at its baleen plates used for filtering krill, its primary food source.
This figure features a mouth that opens and closes.
The Papo Blue Whale measures approximately 15.5" long and 7" wide.
The blue whale is the largest animal ever known to have existed, reaching lengths of up to 100 feet (30 meters) and weights of up to 200 tons. These marine giants are found in oceans all over the world, often migrating between feeding grounds in polar regions and breeding grounds in warmer waters. Blue whales have a distinct blue-grey coloration with lighter spots, which appear even more vivid when seen underwater.
Blue whales are filter feeders, primarily consuming small shrimp-like animals called krill. During feeding season, they can consume up to 4 tons of krill per day. They use baleen plates in their mouths to filter these tiny creatures from the water. The feeding process involves taking in a massive gulp of water and then expelling it through the baleen plates, trapping the krill inside.
