Duck Muscovy - Domesticated (Papo)

The Muscovy duck, native to Central and South America, is unique among domesticated ducks as it is not derived from mallard ancestors but instead belongs to its own species. Muscovy ducks are larger and quieter than other domesticated ducks, known for their distinctive red facial caruncles and glossy plumage, which can be white, black, or a combination of both.

Domesticated Muscovies are valued for their lean, flavorful meat, often considered healthier than other poultry. In addition to being hardy, these ducks are excellent foragers and are often raised in free-range environments. Muscovies have a strong maternal instinct, and their eggs hatch after a longer incubation period compared to other ducks. Though typically bred for meat production, these ducks are also popular on farms for pest control, as they feed on insects and small creatures. Their calm and friendly disposition makes them an interesting addition to farms or backyard flocks.
