Mosasaurus Overview:
There are FOUR Mosasaurus figures currently available, but with Papo releasing a new figure in 2023, thought it would be a good time to take a look at the old and the new. This information is based on the opinions of our new “in-house” resident paleontologist.
Please click on the individual items and review our ACTUAL PRODUCT PICTURES to assist your buying decision.
This was selected as the technically most accurate Mosasaurus figure by our in-house expert. Figure is the largest figure available and thus has the most room for details. Scale texture is well done and compliments the coloring on the body. White belly is correctly counter shaded versus the darker back.
Mouth open and closes and displays not only well formed teeth, but also the extra set of teeth in the upper jaw. Overall a technically accurate and good looking model and worth the typically higher price point.
This figure was introduced by Papo in 2023. Oveall a very accurate figure with lots of nice additional details. Noticeable curve to the body gives an impression of making a hard turn in the water to either flee or feed. Jaw opens and closes and visible second set of teeth in the upper mouth. Yellow eye pops off the face.
Dorsal fin is a nice touch as is the bones visible under the skin of the flippers (as opposed to smooth fins). Scales on the body accent the counter shading on the body. Belly is more grey and the white used on other models – a nice distinction. Lower priced than the PNSO, this is a great figure at this price.
This is the brightest colored Mosasaurus figure. While there is no supporting evidence to justify this bright coloring it is an eye-catching figure and for a younger child would probably be a valid choice.
Even with the look, this figure has many accurate attributes. The teeth inside the upper mouth, the jaw that opens and closes, the forked tongue, and the proportional flipper as all scientifically accurate. Bumps along the spine are not supported by any fossil evidence, but are attractive. Good, eye catching figure.
This a simple figure that represents what we originally thought a Mosasaurus would look like. Newly discovered fossil evidence has changed our thoughts on what it would look like, but if you like “old school” figures, this would be a good choice. Fixed jaw, sooth skin, single (as opposed to bifurcated tail) and known to no longer be accurate. Lowest price of the figures and a distinct look.
