The Mojo Dunkleosteus figure captures the formidable appearance of Dunkleosteus with its robust, armored head and powerful jaws. The body of the figure is sculpted to showcase the bony plates that characterize this ancient fish, providing a realistic texture that mimics the armor-like exoskeleton.
Painted with a eye-catching palette of yellows, greens, and earthy tones, the figure is attractive to the eye. The dynamic pose of the figure, with its mouth slightly open to reveal sharp, bony plates instead of teeth, conveys the ferocity and predatory nature of this Devonian giant.
The Mojo Dunkleosteus figure measures approx: 7.2 L x 1.5 H x 2.5 W inches.
Dunkleosteus is well-known for its massive size and formidable appearance. Some species of Dunkleosteus could grow up to 33 feet in length and weigh nearly 4 tons, making it one of the top predators of its time. Its most distinctive feature was its heavily armored head, composed of thick bony plates, and its jaw structure, which included two pairs of sharp bony plates that acted like shearing blades.
Unlike modern fish, Dunkleosteus did not have true teeth. Instead, it had extensions of its jaw bones that were continuously sharpened against each other, allowing it to bite through the tough exoskeletons of other marine creatures, including arthropods and other placoderms. This unique feeding mechanism made Dunkleosteus an apex predator, capable of exerting an enormous bite force estimated to be one of the strongest among fish, past or present.
