Brachiosaurus is one of the most recognizable and well-studied dinosaurs, known for its immense size and distinctive physical characteristics. This genus of sauropod dinosaur lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 154 to 153 million years ago. The name "Brachiosaurus" means "arm lizard," a reference to its unusually long front limbs, which were longer than its hind limbs, giving it a unique body posture among dinosaurs.
Brachiosaurus was one of the largest land animals that ever lived. Estimates of its length range from 59 to 85 feet, with a height of about 39 feet and a weight of up to 62 tons. Its massive size was supported by a robust skeleton, with vertebrae and limb bones that were heavily reinforced to bear the enormous weight. The long neck of Brachiosaurus allowed it to browse vegetation high above the ground, which would have given it access to food sources that were out of reach for other herbivorous dinosaurs. This adaptation likely reduced competition for food and allowed Brachiosaurus to exploit a unique ecological niche.
