Female giraffes, like their male counterparts, are known for their towering height and distinctive spotted coat. They are social creatures and typically live in groups, known as towers or herds, consisting of anywhere from a few individuals to dozens.
Female giraffes are generally smaller in size than males, with shorter, thinner horns or ossicones on their heads. They typically stand between 14 and 16 feet tall, although some individuals can reach up to 18 feet. Their coat color can vary, but most commonly, they have a patchy brown or orange pattern with white spaces in between.
Female giraffes are known for their incredible maternal instincts. They have a gestation period of around 15 months and give birth to a single calf, which can weigh up to 150 pounds at birth. The mother will carefully lick and clean the newborn calf, and it will begin nursing within an hour of being born.
