Ankylosaurus magniventris was one of the largest and most heavily armored dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous period, living around 68–66 million years ago in what is now North America. Measuring up to 8 meters (26 feet) in length and weighing around 4–8 tons, this herbivorous dinosaur was built like a walking fortress, covered in thick, bony plates called osteoderms. Its most distinctive feature was its massive, club-like tail, which it likely used as a defensive weapon against predators such as Tyrannosaurus rex. Despite its heavy armor, Ankylosaurus was an efficient browser, using its beak-like mouth to feed on low-growing plants. Its unique combination of defense, size, and strength made it one of the most formidable herbivores of its time.
Ankylosaurus magniventris
It was not only the largest ankylosaurid, but also the largest of any known fully-armoured dinosaurs. It was equipped with heavy armour consisting of osteoderms, or scutes, embedded in the skin, and a huge tail club knob that would have primarily served as a defensive weapon.
