Belemnite, meaning "dart" or "javelin", they were a free swimming squid-like creature with a long bullet shaped body and a hard internal skeleton called a guard. They were carnivore and lived in the Late Triassic to Late Cretaceous. Their habitat was shallow coastal waters so as deep oceans.
Belemnites had a distinctive conical shell called a "guard," which was composed of a hard, calcareous material. The guard was tapered at one end and had a pointed tip, resembling a bullet or a dart. The animal's soft body was housed within the guard, with tentacles extending from its head for feeding and locomotion.
These cephalopods were efficient predators, using their sharp, beak-like jaws to capture and consume small prey in the ancient seas.
