Hippopotamuses, often referred to as hippos, are characterized by their massive size, barrel-shaped bodies, short legs, and large mouths with formidable tusks.
Despite their bulky appearance, hippos are surprisingly agile and can move quickly both on land and in water. They are excellent swimmers and can hold their breath for several minutes while submerged. Hippos are herbivores, feeding primarily on grasses, aquatic plants, and fruits, which they consume during nocturnal foraging excursions on land.
