The name Deinocheirus means "terrible hand," a reference to its enormous, clawed forelimbs, which were initially the only parts of the skeleton that had been discovered.
Deinocheirus had a distinctive appearance with a large, humped back, long arms with massive claws, and a broad, duck-billed snout.
One of the most striking features of Deinocheirus is its forelimbs. Each arm was about 2.4 meters long, ending in three large claws that were likely used for foraging and possibly defense. The size and shape of these claws suggest that Deinocheirus could have been an omnivore, using its claws to dig for plants, strip leaves from trees, or capture small animals and fish. The presence of gastroliths (stomach stones) in the fossilized remains supports the idea that Deinocheirus had a varied diet, using these stones to grind up tough plant material in its digestive system.
