The CollectA Thylacine Female measures approximately in inches: 2.5 L x 0.7 W x 2.8 H.
The Thylacine, was a large carnivorous marsupial native to Tasmania, mainland Australia, and New Guinea. Often referred to as the Tasmanian Tiger due to the distinct dark stripes across its back, the Thylacine was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times. It resembled a large, short-haired dog with a stiff tail and abdominal pouch similar to that of a kangaroo.
The Thylacine was a solitary and nocturnal hunter, primarily preying on small to medium-sized animals such as birds, rodents, and kangaroos. Its hunting strategy involved ambushing prey, relying on its keen sense of sight and hearing. Unlike placental predators, the Thylacine had relatively weak jaws and teeth, suggesting that it relied on stealth and surprise rather than brute force to catch its prey.
Thylacines had a pouch in which females carried their young, similar to other marsupials. Typically, the female Thylacine gave birth to up to four pups at a time, which would remain in the pouch for about three months before becoming more independent. This reproductive trait was vital for the survival of the species in the harsh Australian environment.
