The Hirola is one of the world's most endangered antelope species. Native to the border region between Kenya and Somalia, the Hirola is often referred to as the "four-eyed antelope" due to the prominent preorbital glands located beneath its eyes, which resemble an extra pair of eyes. These glands play a role in territorial marking and communication among individuals.
Hirolas have a distinctive appearance, with a sandy brown coat that provides excellent camouflage in their arid, grassy habitat. Their underparts are paler, and they have white markings around their eyes, on their throat, and on their undersides. The males and females both possess long, ridged horns that can reach up to 27 inches in length, curving elegantly backward.
