Saurophaganax maximus, often referred to as the "lord of lizard-eaters," was a giant theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 151 million years ago. It is considered one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs, with estimates suggesting it could reach lengths of up to 12 meters and possibly weigh as much as 3 tons.
This dinosaur was a member of the allosaurid family, closely related to the more well-known Allosaurus. However, Saurophaganax was significantly larger and more robust, indicating that it occupied the top tier of the food chain in its ecosystem. The anatomical features of Saurophaganax include a massive skull with large, sharp teeth designed for slicing through flesh, powerful jaws, and a muscular neck to support its head. These attributes suggest that it was a highly effective predator capable of taking down large prey.
