The Pygmy Sperm Whale is one of the smallest whale species, measuring about 9 to 11 feet in length and weighing between 700 to 1,000 pounds. This species is often confused with its close relative, the Dwarf Sperm Whale, but can be distinguished by its slightly larger size and different head shape. The Pygmy Sperm Whale has a broad, blunt head that constitutes about 15% of its body length. This whale's jaw is small and underslung, giving it a somewhat shark-like appearance.
