Ornithocheirus is a genus of pterosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, approximately 125 million years ago. It belonged to a group of flying reptiles known as pterodactyloids, characterized by their elongated fourth finger that supports the wing membrane.
The name Ornithocheirus means "bird hand," referring to the bird-like appearance of its wing structure. These pterosaurs had large, elongated wings that enabled them to soar and glide efficiently through the air.
