Liliensternus, also known as "Liliensternus liliensterni," is an extinct genus of carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Triassic period, approximately 210 million years ago. It belonged to a group of dinosaurs called theropods, which includes famous species like Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor.
Liliensternus was a medium-sized dinosaur, measuring about 4 to 5 meters (13 to 16 feet) in length. It had a slender build with a relatively long neck and tail. Its forelimbs were shorter than its hind limbs, and it likely walked on two legs, similar to other theropods.
While the fossil record of Liliensternus is incomplete, paleontologists have discovered several partial skeletons and isolated bones, allowing them to reconstruct its general appearance and make some inferences about its behavior. It had sharp, serrated teeth and powerful jaws, indicating that it was a carnivorous predator, likely feeding on small to medium-sized animals.
Liliensternus inhabited what is now modern-day Germany and possibly other parts of Europe. It lived in a time when dinosaurs were still diversifying and evolving, and it represents one of the early members of the theropod lineage.
