CollectA Dinosaurs - Herrerasaurus #88371
3+ Years
Small Parts. Not for children under 3 years.
Herrerasaurus had a slender body, long tail, and strong hind limbs, which suggests it was a fast runner. Its forelimbs were shorter and carried sharp claws. The CollectA Herrerasaus does a great job of recreating these features in a dark green coloring.
The CollectA Herrerasaurus #88371 measures: 4.7" L x 1.5" H.
Herrerasaurus is an extinct genus of dinosaur that lived during the Late Triassic period, approximately 231 to 228 million years ago. It is one of the earliest-known dinosaurs and belongs to the group called theropods, which includes famous dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus rex and Velociraptor.
Herrerasaurus was first discovered in 1958 in the Ischigualasto Formation of northwestern Argentina by the paleontologist Victorino Herrera. The name "Herrerasaurus" was given in honor of Herrera.
Herrerasaurus had a slender body, long tail, and strong hind limbs, which suggests it was a fast runner. Its forelimbs were shorter and carried sharp claws. The skull was relatively large with sharp teeth, indicating it was carnivorous.
Initially, Herrerasaurus was considered a primitive theropod, but later studies have placed it closer to the origins of dinosaurs, making it part of a group called "herrerasaurids." This group represents an early branch of the dinosaur family tree.
Herrerasaurus is significant because it provides important insights into the early evolution of dinosaurs. It lived alongside other early dinosaur relatives and reptiles during a time when the dinosaurs were not yet the dominant group of land-dwelling animals.
