Collecta offers 3 Pteranodon models. We consider this to be the best of the 3 available models. Giant wingspan measures over 10" wide. Distinctive flying pose balances on wingtips and feet.
CollectA - Pteranodon measures:
Wingspan (tip to tip) = 10"
Toes to beak tip: 5.75"
Standing floor to beak tip: 4.5" Tall.
Retired / no longer carried by CollectA U.S.A. - Limited to stock on hand.
Selected as the best Pteranodon figure in 2022. While some of the other figures have better specific features, we love the pose on this figure.
Figure is unique in that it doesn't lay flat. Figure is molded so that it balances on its bent wingtips and its feet. Great pose that looks like it is in flight. Most other Pteranodon toys lay flat - hiding most of their details.
Figure is overall dark brown with orange-ish highlights. Wings are semi-translucent. Feet are swept back as if the figure is flying. Toes are curled and look like they could be grabbing something.
Head and cranial crest are a little simplistic. Inside of mouth is a undistinguished pink.
Manufacturer picture shows white undersides of wings - in reality - entire wing is solid brown.
Pteranodon are part of the Pterosaur genus - which includes some of the largest flying reptiles. Thus Pteranodons are not dinosaurs, but in fact are flying reptiles. Pteranodons are the most famous Pterosaurs. Over 1,000 Pteranodon fossils have been found. Pteranodons had toothless beaks (similar to birds).
The most distinctive characteristic of the Pteranodon is the cranial crest. The crest was likely just a display feature but may have been used for stability in flight or as a rudder.
