The Peregrine Falcon is renowned as the fastest bird—and indeed the fastest animal—on the planet, capable of reaching speeds of over 240 mph during its characteristic hunting stoop (dive). Peregrine falcons are medium-sized birds of prey found on every continent except Antarctica, and they have adapted to a wide range of environments, from coastal cliffs to city skyscrapers.
Their sharp eyesight allows them to spot prey from great distances, primarily hunting birds such as pigeons and songbirds. With their powerful talons and streamlined bodies, peregrine falcons are formidable hunters. Conservation efforts have successfully helped restore populations that were once endangered by pesticide use, making these falcons a true symbol of wildlife recovery.
