Chameleons are a unique family of reptiles known for their remarkable ability to change color, a skill used for communication, temperature regulation, and camouflage. Native to parts of Africa, Madagascar, and some areas of southern Europe and Asia, chameleons are well-adapted to a life in trees, with specialized feet and prehensile tails that allow them to grip branches. They also have independently rotating eyes, enabling them to scan their surroundings for prey, usually small insects, while remaining stationary. Famous for their color-changing abilities, chameleons use this skill in response to various environmental factors, rather than solely for blending in with their environment.
