Velvet spiders belong to the family Eresidae, and they are known for their soft, velvety appearance. These spiders are usually found in Europe and parts of Africa. One of the most well-known species is the Ladybird Spider (Eresus sandaliatus), famous for its striking red abdomen with black spots. Velvet spiders are relatively small and non-aggressive, living in silk-lined burrows where they remain hidden most of the time. Some species exhibit remarkable social behaviors, including communal living and even maternal care, where the mother feeds her young with a liquid produced from her body. Despite their fierce appearance, velvet spiders pose no threat to humans.
