The ram, commonly known as a bighorn sheep, is a species native to North America’s mountainous regions, particularly in the Rocky Mountains and Sierra Nevada. Rams are known for their large, curved horns, which are made of keratin, similar to human nails, and can weigh up to 30 lbs. These horns are not only for display but are used during mating season in dramatic head-butting contests to establish dominance and win mates. Rams live in herds and are well-adapted to climbing steep, rocky terrains, relying on their incredible balance and strong hooves to navigate these challenging landscapes. They are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, and are known for their resilience in harsh mountain environments.
