Lythronax argestes Information:

Lythronax argestes is a dinosaur species that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 80 million years ago. Its name, "Lythronax," is derived from Greek words that mean "gore king," which is fitting given its role as a carnivorous predator.

Lythronax was first described in 2013 based on fossil remains found in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah, USA. The fossils consist of a partial skull and other skeletal elements, making it a relatively incomplete specimen.

Lythronax belongs to the family Tyrannosauridae, which includes some of the most famous dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus rex. It is classified as a tyrannosaurid dinosaur.

Although the fossil record for Lythronax is limited, scientists estimate that it was a large dinosaur, with some estimates suggesting it could have reached lengths of up to 24 feet (7.3 meters) and weighed around 2.5 tons.

Like other tyrannosaurids, Lythronax was a carnivore and likely preyed on other dinosaurs and small to medium-sized animals of its time. It had sharp teeth and powerful jaws adapted for tearing into the flesh of its prey.

Lythronax lived during the Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous period, which is known for the diversity of dinosaurs that inhabited North America during that time.

The area where Lythronax lived would have been a coastal environment with lush vegetation, and it shared its ecosystem with other dinosaurs like hadrosaurs and other theropods.

Lythronax argestes is important in the study of tyrannosaurid evolution because it represents one of the earliest known members of the group in North America. Its discovery sheds light on the early diversification of tyrannosaurs on the continent.
