Best Archaeopteryx Toy Figure: Safari Ltd. Archaeopteryx #302829
In a surprising upset, this less expensive figure is selected as the best overall Archaeopteryx. The design is fine, but what pushes this figure over the tops is accuracy in two main areas:
1) This figure has primarily black feathers. Research has shown that Microraptors had black feathers. Thus even though the colors on the Papo figure pop, they are not as accurate.
2) This figure has the more accurate “toe claw”. The Papo figure does not have this required claw on its feet.
Thus, the Safari Ltd. Archaeopteryx wins the best figure and by default, the best value Archaeopteryx also.
Most Colorful Archaeopteryx Toy Figure: Papo Archaeopteryx #55034
We really like this figure from Papo and is considered by some to be more eye-catching than the Safari Ltd. figure, but it is not the most accurate based on the fossil record. While the colors are vibrant, and the wings and other elements are more proportional, this figure is missing the required “two claw” which we know should be present on the Archaeopteryx. Also, while the colors on this figure are vibrant, we know based on the pigments in the fossils that they should have been black. Thus while beautiful, is not as accurate as the Safari Ltd. model.
