The Haolonggood Ampelosaurus - Sun er niang model captures the essence of Ampelosaurus with its brown and orange coloring, which reflects the possible natural hues of this dinosaur. The model showcases the distinctive osteoderms, or bony plates / spikes, on its back and neck, a feature characteristic of some titanosaurs for defense or display.

The Sun er niang model's long neck is positioned horizontally, suggesting how the dinosaur might have foraged, while the sturdy, four-legged stance accurately depicts the massive, elephantine body structure of Ampelosaurus.

The Sun er niang model reflects the current understanding of Ampelosaurus, which is distinguished by its armor-like skin, a trait not common among all sauropods. This armor, consisting of osteoderms, might have served for protection against predators or for thermoregulation, a feature the model accurately portrays through its textured surface.

The Haolonggood Ampelosaurus - Sun er niang measures: 16.5" L x 2.3" W x 5.6" H

Ampelosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 70 to 66 million years ago. The name "Ampelosaurus" is derived from the Greek words "ampelos," meaning vine or tendril, and "sauros," meaning lizard. This dinosaur was first discovered in the late 1980s in southern France.

Ampelosaurus was a large dinosaur, with estimates suggesting it reached lengths of about 50 to 60 feet (15 to 18 meters). As a sauropod, it had a long neck, a long tail, and a massive, elephant-like body.

Like other sauropods, Ampelosaurus was likely a herbivore, feeding on plants and vegetation. Its long neck would have allowed it to reach vegetation high above the ground.

Fossils of Ampelosaurus were first discovered in the late 1980s in the region of Europe, particularly in France. The remains include vertebrae, limb bones, and other skeletal elements.

Ampelosaurus belongs to the group of dinosaurs known as titanosaurs, which were a diverse group of sauropods that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. Titanosaurs were characterized by their long necks and tails and were among the last surviving sauropods before the mass extinction event that occurred at the end of the Cretaceous.

During the Late Cretaceous, the region where Ampelosaurus lived was likely a coastal environment. Fossil discoveries, including those of Ampelosaurus, provide valuable insights into the ecosystems and biodiversity of that time.

It's important to note that our understanding of Ampelosaurus and other dinosaurs is continually evolving as new discoveries are made, and ongoing research enhances our knowledge of prehistoric life.
